Welcome to the Nordic Ballad Meeting!
The theme of the meeting is ballads in theory and practice, and the meeting includes a conference section with plenary lectures, session papers and workshops, and a concert section which is also open to the general public. This is a unique opportunity for all those who are interested - researchers, performers and teachers - to meet in the heart of Småland for a few intensive days. The languages of the conference are Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and English. The conference is arranged by the Forum for Intermedial Studies (see more here), Department of Humanities at Växjö University, in collaboration with Musik i Syd and Smålands musikarkiv http://www.smalandsmusikarkiv.nu

Session papers
You can register to take part with a session paper by submitting an abstract of no more than one page (12 points) to: ballad.hum@vxu.se. The papers can deal with various aspects of Nordic ballads in theory and practice. We welcome contributions from different disciplines such as music, ethnology, linguistics, literature, art, dance, etc. Speakers will be allowed a total of 30 minutes, of which at least 10 minutes must be used for discussion. It may be necessary to make a selection from among the suggested papers. Notification of whether your abstract has been accepted will be given at the start of November.

Registration and conference fee
It is important that you registrate for the conference!
The conference fee is SEK 1,500, and it covers lunch and coffee breaks on all the days of the conference, the banquet on 28 March and the concerts during the ballad meeting. Note that the concert and party on the 29 of March is not included in the fee, the cost is 150 SEK. If you wish to participate you make the payment as you pay the registration fee. For more information go to registration. The payment is binding and cannot be refunded!
The deadline for the conference fee is 26 February 2008. Please note that registration is binding. The conference fee cannot be refunded.
